Standard 4: Collaboration with families and communities:

v     A competent school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by collaborating with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.

A school is an integral part of the community in which it exists.  For the students, it is a place of knowledge; for the parents, it is a place to watch their children grown and develop.  For the community, the school should be a symbol of pride that tells the world that this is a good place to live.  In order for these things to be accomplished, a successful school administrator should build quality relationships with the constituencies that feed into the building.  I plan on accomplishing this by becoming and active member within the Parent/Teacher Organization.

The PTO is a perfect place to talk to parents and community groups who are seeking help from the school or who wish to be noticed by the school.  The PTO is a good place to build relationships with parents and community groups to help the school gain positive recognition and create a seamless flow of communication between the parties affected by the school.
